Undergraduate Student Forms & Resources
Study Abroad

We strongly encourage students to pursue study abroad opportunities. Looking at America from outside the United States can be a deeply enriching experience.

To arrange for a semester abroad, you should first consult the Reves Center.  This will explain the variety of ways of researching, planning for, and paying for study abroad. While the Reves Center can help you to locate appropriate programs, you will need to consult the Director of Undergraduate Studies about your coursework.

Graduate Student Resources

The A&S Office of Graduate Studies coordinates a lot of resources for graduate students, including an ombudsperson, courses out of the Graduate Center, some fellowships, and health insurance information. If you don't see what you need here, go there. Your advisor or the American Studies Director of Graduate Studies can also help.

The following are resources for American Studies graduate students.

American Studies Graduate Handbooks
Theses & Dissertations
Funding for Travel or Research

American Studies has funding to support graduate students to conduct and present their work.

Program Travel Funds

Most years the American Studies program awards a limited number of small travel grants to enable students to present papers at conferences or to acquire first-hand knowledge of collections, archives and similar resouces. A call for applications for these funds is made early each semester. Grants are made on a case-by-case basis and all students in good academic standing are eligible to apply for these funds.

Summer Research Funds

Whenever available, the American Studies program also provides funds for summer research. Applications must be submitted in mid-April.
