GRAD Courses
What are GRAD courses?
Graduate Center courses (or, GRAD courses), are offered to Arts & Sciences graduate students through the Graduate Center and the Office of Graduate Studies. They are:
- Zero-credit
- Free (no tuition cost associated)
- Pass/Fail
- Designed to help graduate students learn or improve upon important skills without requiring large amounts of extra time or work. These courses typically meet for only 10 weeks out of the semester, or as one week “boot camps” during winter, spring, or summer break.
These short courses meet for one to two hours of instruction each week, in the late afternoon or early evening to avoid scheduling conflicts with students’ traditional disciplinary courses. Some GRAD courses are designed specifically with the needs of international students in mind, including a suite of English Language courses offered in partnership with the Reves Center. Others are open to both international and domestic students; these include Academic Writing, Dissertation Writing, and the Graduate Teaching Project. GRAD courses earn zero credit, and are offered at no cost to either the student or the student’s program if the student is registered in a graduate program in Arts & Sciences.
