Biology Department Unites through Scavenger Hunt and Sweet Treats at Introductory Biology Ice Cream Social

The introductory biology students of BIOL 203 were in for a delightful surprise last week as they embarked on a unique ice cream-filled adventure. The Biology Department organized an ice cream social event to welcome the incoming students, fostering camaraderie and creating an opportunity for meaningful connections.

On September 14, 2023, the Integrated Science Center, the hub of scientific exploration at the university, buzzed with excitement as students, faculty, staff, and graduate and undergraduate student teaching assistants gathered to partake in the ice cream extravaganza.

To earn their frozen treats, the students were tasked with a thrilling scavenger hunt. Divided into groups, they embarked on a quest to locate at least five biology faculty and staff members within the sprawling premises of the Integrated Science Center. This ingenious activity not only acquainted the students with the department's faculty and staff members but also encouraged them to explore their new academic home.

The scavenger hunt not only served as an icebreaker but also showcased the diverse expertise and dedication of the biology department's faculty and staff. The students had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, ask questions, and gain valuable insights from the experts in their field.

As the groups successfully completed the scavenger hunt, they were rewarded with an assortment of mouthwatering frozen treats. The ice cream offered a sweet respite from the thrill of the hunt and provided a chance for everyone to relax and savor the moment.

As the ice cream social drew to a close, the echoes of laughter and the buzz of animated conversations lingered in the air, leaving a lasting impression on the hearts of the introductory biology students. The event not only satisfied their sweet tooth but also ignited a sense of belonging within the biology department. With newfound friendships and a taste of the department's vibrant spirit, these budding scientists are now equipped with a support network that will accompany them throughout their academic journey.

The ice cream social marked an auspicious beginning, setting the stage for an exciting and rewarding academic year. The Biology Department's commitment to fostering a sense of community and engagement has laid a strong foundation for these students to thrive and excel in their studies. With every tasty bite enjoyed and every connection made, the bonds within the biology department grow stronger, ensuring a supportive and enriching experience for all.
