About the Program

Biology is a popular major with a rigorous undergraduate program and a small research-focused master’s program. W&M develops well-trained biologists and scientifically literate thinkers prepared for many different career paths. Faculty nurture critical thinking, professional skills and intellectual independence. The educational mission is rooted in excellent teaching and research in the life sciences from molecules to ecosystems.

Outcomes

Many biology graduates move on to the most prestigious medical and graduate schools, vet schools and professional positions in careers related to a broad range of important issues ranging from human health to global environmental issues. While graduates share a degree in biology, they later work in fields as diverse as medicine, environmental management, research, industry, science communication and law.
