Registration Structure

After extensive testing, collaboration with partners across campus and externally, and in consultation with Student Assembly leadership and class presidents, registration in Banner Self-Service has received several structural updates to improve the registration experience for students.

Below is important information about registration, time ticket groups for undergraduate students, and undergraduate course seat availability. The changes outlined apply to undergraduate students during the week of social class priority registration.

Banner 9 Register for Classes

Registration has been moved to the updated look and feel that Banner 9 Register for Classes provides. Additional features are available, including Conditional Add and Drop (swapping classes).

Students can only have one registration session open at a time. If more than one registration session is open, students will receive a registration error, may have performance issues, and their registration may not be saved. Examples of multiple sessions include two web browser windows/tabs open for registration simultaneously, logging in from your phone and on your computer simultaneously, and using multiple web browsers to access registration simultaneously.

Time Ticket Groups

Students will continue to register by social class. However, each social class will be divided into two groups. Students will be randomly assigned to a group and declared majors will be evenly divided between the two groups to equalize access to seats. During priority registration week in Fall and Spring, time tickets will close at 3:00 p.m. each day.

Review When to Register for specific dates and times for each social class. Look carefully at each portion of your time ticket in Banner Self-Service (Check Your Registration Status link) to confirm when you will be able to register. Keep in mind that a time ticket may open and close a few times each day.

Priority Registration in Fall and Spring: For most social classes, undergraduate student registration will either start at 6:30 a.m. or 7:10 a.m., depending on group assignment. More information is available on the When to Register page.

Entering Students at August Orientation: Registration will either start at 8:15 a.m. or 9:05 a.m., depending on group assignment. More information is available on the New Students page.

Course Seats Available to Each Group

The University Registrar's Office will make only half of that day's seats available to each group. This ensures equal access to the day's available seats for both groups and will continue to accommodate "tiered enrollment" requests made by departments and programs.

Between the groups, and again before the groups come back together, maintenance windows will enable the University Registrar's Office to adjust the seats available. After the second maintenance window during priority registration days, all students in the social class will be able to register through 3:00 p.m. that day.

After 3:00 p.m. on each priority registration day, the University Registrar's Office will make adjustments for the following day's next registration window. Students should keep this timing in mind when reviewing the Open Course List.

Entering Students at August Orientation: Registration will either start at 8:15 a.m. or 9:05 a.m. on registration day, depending on group assignment. Between the two groups, the Registrar's Office will adjust the number of seats available. All students will come back together for any needed adjustments from 9:55-10:25 a.m. More information is available on the New Students page.
