Biography

Alexa Busby grew her passion for conservation from her many experiences outdoors. Nature has been her second home, as a place of joy, comfort, exploration, and endless curiosity. Her double major in biology and environmental science allows her to combine her interests in ecology with her enthusiasm for environmental preservation.

Alexa is a member of William & Mary‚ Applied Conservation and Ecological Research lab, where she pursues her passion for both wildlife and fieldwork by assessing salamander abundance in local streams. Alexa's life-long goal is to aid in the conservation of nature and hopes to have a career in wildlife biology where she can help to protect important species each day.

Alexa was a 2023 student researcher for the IIC Conservation Research Program. She worked with the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources to analyze spatial and temporal roadkill trends, propose locations for wildlife crossing structures, and implement citizen science data collection.
