Undergraduate Research

The French & Francophone Studies curriculum is research-driven. All our classes include research projects of different kinds. We offer several opportunities specifically for you to explore a topic of your choice:

  • Students in our study abroad programs conduct on-site research projects.
  • Our required capstone seminars, FREN 450, include a research project.
  • You could spend a year conducting your own research project through the Honors Program.
  • You might spend a semester working on your own research project by taking FREN 411, an independent study course.

French & Francophone Studies students have a chance to present their research during an annual Fête de la Recherche [pdf], a student research conference.montpellier-2022.jpg

This Fête is generally hosted by students enrolled in an Advanced Seminar. It features presentations of students’ original research projects, and provides information on study-abroad and scholarship opportunities. If you are considering further work in French & Francophone Studies, come to the Fête to find out more and be inspired!

Research Funding

Our McCormack-Reboussin fellowships in French & Francophone Studies support students conducting summer research projects. The Charles Center coordinates many scholarships and grants to fund student research.
