Nathan Knight ’20

Forward-Center for the Minnesota Timberwolves

Major: {{https://mason.wm.edu/undergraduate/academics/majors-concentrations/index.php,Business Analytics}}

As a young man growing up in Syracuse, New York, Nathan Knight dreamed of one day earning a college degree. His visit to William & Mary was the first and only stop on his college tour. Nathan felt an immediate connection, one that went beyond the opportunity to play basketball. A business analytics major and finance minor, he not only excelled on the basketball court but also within his professional network and in the classroom. “A lot of what I learned at William & Mary was about predictions and assumptions and handling the unknown,” he says, “and I tried to incorporate that into basketball.”

After his junior season, Nathan entered the NBA Draft, planning to begin his professional basketball career a year early. However, after spending the off-season evaluating his options, he ultimately decided to return to the university to complete his business degree. After graduating in 2020, he pursued his dream of playing professional basketball when he inked an NBA two-way contract with the Atlanta Hawks. In 2021, he joined the Minnesota Timberwolves in another two-way contract, and he re-signed with them in 2022. In the future, Nathan says he would love to coach or pursue a career in sports analytics. “My degree makes these options possible,” he says.
