John Cho is known among his classmates as an avid volunteer with an ardent passion for community service. As president of the Student Assembly, John spearheaded the new Community Values pledge during New Student Orientation. He represented students to the Board of Visitors and facilitated communication between student leaders and Student Affairs administrators. He previously served as the Student Assembly’s secretary of sustainability and the W&M Food Recovery Network president. He and his team recovered more than 700 pounds of food from on-campus partners and dining halls to provide more than 650 meals to the community.
A kinesiology major, John also served as a substance and alcohol safety sensibility specialist for the university’s Health Outreach Peer Educators (HOPE) organization. John founded and chaired the Student EMS initiative, in which student EMTs partner with the Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Department to increase student preparedness for emergencies. In 2021, John was recognized during Opening Convocation with a Presidential Service Award for his commitment to service and significant impact on the W&M community.
John is currently working on his Master of Public Health degree at Yale University. He continues to serve his community and nation in the Office of Refugee Resettlement, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
