Traffic Policy

In recent years, there has been a marked deterioration in the condition of William & Mary's brick sidewalks and green space on the campus, including the destruction of tree root systems. Much of the deterioration is due to the increase in vehicles such as trucks, vans, and cars that are driven on sidewalks and the grass. The net result of increased traffic has been a systematic deterioration of our physical campus. Therefore, these guidelines are now in place:

  • Driving cars, trucks, and vans is prohibited on brick sidewalks and university grounds (including the Sunken Gardens).
  • Organizations and individuals will be held financially responsible for any damage to university grounds resulting from vehicular use.
  • Violations will also result in a $25 fine.
