Van Certification Training Course

In order to drive a university vehicle, a student must have completed the W&M Van Certification Course. Eligibility to drive a W&M vehicle is contingent upon completion. Individuals who have had a moving violation within the past year are not eligible for the course or approval.  Additionally, two years of driving experience is required.  Completion of this course makes you an eligible driver as a student for the duration of your W&M tenure.

You must register in person with completed paperwork at the Office of Student Leadership Development - Sadler Center 273.  Individuals will not be permitted to sign up without all completed paperwork. Required paperwork includes the following:

  1. Driving Record from your Home State: In order to take the van safety course, you must provide a copy of your COMPLETE driving record from your home state. Consult with your DMV for a transcript. In Virginia (and where available) the printed unofficial driving record is accepted. (Some states do not provide a printable version and it must be requested and paid for through your DMV.)  If you have moved to a different state and your driving record does not show two years, please also obtain your driving record from the previous state in which you were licensed.
  2. Police Van Training Form
  3. Student Driver Authorization

Each class is limited in size so plan ahead and schedule your space early. If you have any questions, call the Office of Student Leadersip Development 221-3300. Student Leadership Development reserves the right to cancel a class with fewer than 6 participants signed up.
