Late Adds, Change Variable Credit Hours, & Overloads
Information about overloads to 19 credit hours, late adds, and changing variable credits after the add/drop deadline
The Office of the University Registrar will review certain requests in the current semester for students seeking to overload to 19 credit hours for fall or spring terms, or those wishing to change the credit hours on their variable credit course after the add/drop deadline. Expand the sections below to review the eligibility criteria for each type of request and find the link to each request form. Students not eligible to request through the University Registrar's Office process may petition the Committee on Academic Status (CAS).
Request for a Late AddRequests for late adds for the Fall 2024 semester will be processed by the Committee on Academic Status (CAS). Please review and complete the petition if you are seeking a late add to a Fall 2024 course. Questions about the petition process may be directed to the [[w|academicaffairs,Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs]]. Note About Late-Starting Short-term CoursesLate-starting courses have their own specific add, drop, and withdrawal deadlines. Students seeking to add a short-term course that has not started do not need to petition. However, if the add/drop deadline has passed for the course, then they should complete the late add petition. Students can contact [[w|registrar]] to inquire about adding a late-starting short-term course, especially if they are unsure if they need to complete the petition form for a late add. |
Request for a Late Change to Variable Credit Course HoursThe request form for a late change to variable credit hours will open for the current semester after add/drop has ended and will remain open through the last day of classes for the semester. This form is not for a late drop of a variable credit course. If you wish to drop your variable credit course after the add/drop deadline, please petition CAS. Note that summer session courses have varying end dates and the deadline is the last day of class for the specific course. Eligibility Criteria for University Registrar Office ReviewThe Office of the University Registrar may review requests from students who wish to make a change to the credit hours for their variable credit course after the add/drop deadline as long as their request meets the following criteria:
Students who do not meet the above criteria but wish to make a late change to the credit hours for their variable credit course may petition the Committee on Academic Status (CAS). ProcessStudents complete and submit the request form. Once submitted, an email will be sent to the instructor to indicate their approval of the change in course hours. The instructor must reply to the University Registrar's Office email with their approval. After the approval email is received, the Registrar's Office will review the student's request. It may take up to five business days for the University Registrar's Office to review the student's request form. Students are strongly encouraged to discuss with their instructors in advance of submitting the form so the instructor will be aware the email is coming and can take quick action. |
Request to Overload to 19 Credit Hours in Fall or Spring SemestersStudents may request to overload to 19 credit hours in fall or spring terms through the Office of the University Registrar. The request form will open two weeks before the start of the semester, however, changes to maximum credit hour limits will be processed no sooner than the day before classes begin. The form will remain open through the last day of classes. The University Registrar's Office does not review requests to overload in summer terms. The late add and late change to variable credit course hours forms both include a way for the student to request an overload to 19 credit hours in fall or spring terms should they need to do so in addition to their late add or late change to credit hours. If the student selects that option in those forms, this separate request form is not needed for those cases. Eligibility Criteria for University Registrar Office ReviewThe Office of the University Registrar may review requests from students who wish to overload to 19 credit hours in fall or spring terms as long as the student meets the following criteria:
Students who do not meet the above criteria but wish to overload, or those students who wish to request an overload for more than 19 credit hours in fall or spring terms or 16 credit hours in summer terms, may petition the Committee on Academic Status (CAS). |
