Submit a Proposal

The IIC is now accepting proposals for applied student-led conservation research

CRP Request for Proposals - Apply by June 15th, 2024

The IIC seeks proposals from conservation partners and W&M faculty/staff for applied, student-led research projects that advance integrative solutions to biodiversity conservation challenges.

Selected projects will be co-designed with conservation partners and conducted by W&M undergraduate students over a full calendar year, beginning in January 2025 and ending in December 2025.

With support from the IIC, the students will design and implement the research with faculty mentorship and in close collaboration with mentors from the conservation partner organizations.

Through these partnerships, we aim to (1) support conservation partners with research needed to advance conservation solutions and (2) nurture the next generation of conservation leaders.

Interested partners and W&M faculty and staff should submit a short proposal by clicking the button below. The submission deadline is June 15, 2024.

1.) Name and contact information for partner or faculty member

2.) Summary of the proposed project (~200 words)

3.) Explanation of project purpose and related conservation outcomes (~200 words)

4.) Project requirements (language, skills, and travel requirements).

Projects do not need to be well-defined at the proposal stage. We work with partners and faculty to co-design and narrow the scope of the projects so they can be completed by students in the allowable program time frame. Projects submitted by W&M faculty/staff must have an external conservation partner collaborating.

Partners will be notified in the summer of 2024, the student applications will be advertised in fall 2024, and the program will begin in January 2025. If you have additional questions about the program or eligibility, check out our partner FAQs or our faculty FAQs.

Additional Opportunities

Outside the application periods, we are always interested in discussing opportunities to collaborate on applied research. We look for interdisciplinary biodiversity conservation opportunities that engage diverse skills and perspectives.

Partners and W&M faculty/staff can submit proposals for our short-term semester-long research program, or GIS-based projects for our Conservation GIS Lab. Applications for these programs are accepted on a rolling basis.

Join our mailing list to be notified of the application openings.

Please feel free to reach out to Erica Garroutte, IIC’s Research Program Manager, with questions or to discuss potential research projects. Thank you for your interest in partnering with the IIC to advance conservation solutions.
