Each year the Center for Student Diversity and many of our diversity student organizations welcome new students to the W&M community at our new student welcome receptions during orientation.
An important part of the mission of the Center for Student Diversity is to educate the entire campus community on issues of diversity and multiculturalism. Our campus conversations about diversity topics are enriched by the knowledge, insights, and talents of noted speakers, scholars and performers.
The Presidents of the 50+ diversity-focused student organizations make up the Center for Student Diversity’s President’s Council. This council of leaders meet for two leadership retreats as well as four meetings throughout the year.
For students interested in the specific experience of being part of a culturally-based Greek letter organization, William & Mary offers a number of Black Greek Letter Organizations and a Latin-based social sorority.
Our campus conversations about diversity topics are enriched by the knowledge, insights, and talents of noted speakers, scholars and performers. Guests who have visited campus throughout the years include: Cornel West, Nikki Giovanni, Gomez Pena, Julian Bond, Maria Hinajosa, Myrlie Evers-Williams, Roland S. Martin, Michael Eric Dyson, Staceyann Chin, Evelyn Hu-Dehart, Richard Blanco, Marc Lamont Hill, Julianne Malveaux, John Legend, and many more.
Orientation events like the Multicultural Student Welcome Reception, the LGBTQ Welcome and Information Session and the CSD Block Party offer opportunities for new students to learn about campus life and resources and meet student organization members.
