About:
Are you interested in how the Internet shapes politics and perceptions around the world? Do you want to learn more about tech policy, media literacy, and the rising power of influencers, activists, and trolls? Come study in D.C. with social media expert Professor Elizabeth Losh as part of the Digital Citizenship Institute at the W&M Washington Center! Through this program, you will meet digital strategists, lobbyists, grassroots organizers, and experts on the Internet to engage in interdisciplinary conversations and interesting site visits. Through these conversations, you'll learn about digital privacy, content moderation, misinformation, big tech monopolies, surveillance capitalism, and many other topics that affect us all.
This course will also satisfy the COLL 300 requirement for students completing the institute. Through participation, the Washington Center will assist each student in finding a full-time internship, allowing the student to gain both academic and professional experience in one fell swoop.
