Post-Baccalaureate Program in Classical Studies

Postbac Poster

The Department of Classical Studies offers a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate program. This program features a flexible course of study for students who have earned a bachelor's degree and who want to pursue further coursework in Classical languages and cultures as preparation for graduate studies, teaching, or personal enrichment.

Students in the program participate fully in our academic community, studying alongside our student majors and engaging in a rich and lively intellectual dialogue.   Our faculty includes experts in a wide range of specialties, including Greek and Roman Archaeology, Language and Literature, Ancient History and Culture, and the reception and influence of antiquity in the modern world.

This program is especially designed for students who wish to:

  • pursue graduate study in Classical Studies (including archaeology, art, history, and society in addition to languages) but do not have enough Latin and Greek to be competitive in applying to Ph.D. programs.
  • prepare for a career in secondary education teaching Latin, History, or related fields but need more coursework in Latin and other Classical subjects.
  • study Latin, Greek, and Classical Civilizations for personal intellectual growth and satisfaction.

NEW: The post-baccalaureate program can now accept international students on an F-1 visa. See "How to apply" below for more details.
