Fall 2021 Golden Griffin Recipients

Chris Ladnier - Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs

Core Values: Collaboration, Professional Excellence

Cris' knowledge of the university and generous, giving spirit really shined over the past 17 months of the pandemic. Not only did Chris manage the affairs of the Vice President's Office remotely, but she also volunteered to answer all calls that came in to W&M's central switchboard for the past year and a half! Additionally, when the Cohen Career Center was down a critical staff member, Chris willingly stepped in to serve as their primary fiscal manager until the position could be filled. No sooner did that special assignment end, then Chris was asked to step in and provide administrative support to the Dean of Students Office. For months, Chris learned the Dean of Students Office systems and processes and added her skill and effort during a time when that help was desperately needed. Chris has always been a steady presence in the VP's office, but this past year she helped the whole university and the division stay afloat during a time of tumult and great need. We are very lucky to have her as a colleague!

Jen Leung - Student Leadership Development

Core Values: Professional Excellence, Service

Over the past year, Jen has stepped into challenging times while still meeting the needs of our students. With multiple staff departures in recent months, she has set the example for excellence in the profession by meeting challenges with grace and a clear understanding that students are the focus. Recently Jen stepped back into sorority recruitment to provide support, advising, expertise and leadership to the Recruitment Counselors. She also took on additional responsibility in student organization financial operations while SLD conducted a search for our new staff person. She has been instrumental in welcoming and onboarding new staff and GA’s, and has ensured they have felt a sense of belonging at W&M. Thank you Jen for stepping up to leadership over the past year!

Jocelyn Madson - Community Values & Restorative Practices

Professional Excellence, Service

While coming in as the Administrative Coordinator for Community Values & Restorative Practices, Jocelyn has gone above and beyond to be able to support not only Community Values & Restorative Practices but the entire Dean of Students Office. She has supported the training of new staff members, updated and re-created templates, and scheduled meetings with to address multiple conduct issues. Jocelyn has also been a key player in the buy W&M system, in which she has taken extra time to learn and work with others to ensure they are meeting all the expectations of the new buying system. Jocelyn has done this while still maintaining a strong office culture, removing outdated personnel files, and ensuring that things are organized for the entire office, not just her department. Jocelyn has been a key reason why the Dean of Students office has been running effectively.
