Faculty Assembly

College of William and Mary
Special Meeting
Tuesday, 11 April 2006

Changes Suggested to Provost's Faculty Retirement Program
Add comma after Commonwealth in 2.2.
25% changed to 20% in 2.3 section 5.
3.2 second paragraph replace "its inception" with "retirement."

Meyers: The faculty was generally favorable to this last draft. There was some fear that a chair might want to protect a position and not allow people to use this retirement. Some felt this should be a departmental decision.

Archibald: Does appropriate office space in this document imply a computer?

Provost: Yes.

Van Dover: This discussion must take place before retirement. Can you take off a year and come back into this?

Provost: No. The presumption is that that money allocated for the position is already spent.

Meyers: My understanding is that those who are less than 2 years from retirement would be able to take part in this.

Provost: Yes, that is the understanding.
