Charter Day

Join the presidential inauguration.

The 2019 Charter Day Ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, February 8, at Kaplan Arena, and will combine two important moments in the university's history. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

While celebrating 326 years since the birth of William & Mary by Royal Charter, Charter Day festivities will serve as the official inauguration for William & Mary President Katherine A. Rowe. Rowe, who was sworn in as W&M's 28th president on July 2, will speak at the event, along with Robert M. Gates ’65, L.H.D. '98. The ceremony will also include the re-investiture of Gates as Chancellor of the university.
