In 1967, Lynn Briley '71, Karen Ely '71 and Janet Brown Strafer '71 arrived at William & Mary, becoming the university's first African-American residential students.

Fifty years later, the university is hosting a yearlong commemoration in recognition of that historic moment. Taking place throughout the 2017-2018 academic year, “Building on the Legacy” will include a series of special events, guest speakers and performances to honor the three alumnae and the contributions of other African-Americans, past and present, to the university.

In this video feature, Briley, Ely and Strafer remember their time as students at W&M.
