Professional Development Funding

Applications for this funding are currently paused through Fall 2022.

The Committee on Sustainability is piloting the funding of faculty/staff professional development grants. Each of the the grants will be up to $300 to help faculty/staff expand their applicable knowledge of sustainability in their particular area to the benefit of the campus and campus community. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

The goal of this funding is to help empower content experts in applying sustainability on the campus in any area of the university.
Guidelines and Recipient Obligations
1. Purchasing in the time of COVID

Due to the mission critical nature of purchases at the university, purchases will need to be made by the awardees department, using the granted funds. This ensures the awardees department approves of the importance of this expenditure.

2. What is the application process?

COS will accept funding applications on a rolling basis--first come, first served. The applicant must submit an application two weeks prior to the professional development date. There is no retroactive funding and applications received with less than two weeks notice may not have sufficient time to be considered.

3. What professional development is eligible?

Registration for workshops, webinars, certifications, conferences and more. The professional development must be directly related to expanding the applicable sustainability knowledge of a content expert. Preference will be given to high-impact potential.

4. What is NOT eligible?

Travel requests are not being accepted at this time (updated Fall 2020). Professional development that could not be applied in practice to the campus or would not significantly increase the sustainability literacy of the campus community. Conferences or training that do not have a clearly articulated connection to sustainability at the university.

5. What do awardees submit after the conference?

Faculty and staff will submit a blog post to be shared on William & Mary Blogs. These blogs are written for the prospective student audience, should include a short summary of their professional development, how they will use what they have learned, and its relation to university sustainability.
