Applications

Civic Agency Project (CAP) seeks energetic, passionate, self-motivated and creative students. Rising juniors and seniors who are interested in engaging in thoughtful discussion on intellectually stimulating topics in civic engagement and democratic leadership are encouraged to apply. CAP seeks students who are highly motivated to pursue their own research topic for an entire academic year. 

CAP Fellows will:

  • Interact with leaders in community engagement and public life;
  • ​Develop dkeep human connections based on academic interests;
  • Learn how to integrate diverse learning perspectives;
  • Serve to challenge and encourage peers in weekly meetings throughout the year;
  • Develop an independent project;
  • Identify key issues related to civic engagement;
  • Develop projects designed with the goal of reinvigorating our democratic virtues, practices, and institutions;
  • Present their work at a year-end symposium;
  • Earn academic credit during the spring semester;
  • Serve as active and engaged member of the CAP community; and 
  • Gain sophistication in bridging difference in an inclusive community.

CAP fellows are required to:

  • Attend weekly CAP class
  • Attend an array of speakers and events on campus throughout the year
  • Actively support peers in their academic growth                                                                                                                  
Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to apply for CAP, students must:

  • Have a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA
  • Be a rising junior or senior

Preference will be given to applicants who:

  • Can demonstrate long-term experience in community engagement
  • Can demonstrate strong knowledge of an issue of civic concern and motivation to further examine the issue of concern. 
  • Can demonstrate strong skill working on a team for an extended period of time
  • Can demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills
  • Can demonstrate the ability to work and learn with professor and peers in an enriching learning environment where all are expected to teach and learn together
