History with the OCE

I have been involved with the Williamsburg Engagement (WE) Program since the beginning of my freshman year. I spent my first year volunteering at the Williamsburg Community Growers, and then I was a team leader at the Heritage Humane Society for all of last year.

What excites you about being a WE team leader?

Being a part of the Williamsburg Engagement program has opened my eyes to the importance and joys of active citizenship. I have been able to witness first-hand how community relationships are developed and used to positively support social change. By working with different agencies, I have also been able to expand my perspective on service and justice, and I’ve observed different strategies for making a difference. I’m so excited to engage with a new community partner this year and support the members of my team as they develop their own relationships with the Williamsburg community through work at the Grove Christian Outreach center. I am especially looking forward to the opportunity to continue learning about and addressing food insecurity in our local neighborhoods. I hope to inspire more students to critically examine their role in our community and encourage their passion for service.
