Williamsburg Engagement (WE)
WE cultivate community
Through the Williamsburg Engagement (WE) program, you and other students can volunteer for a semester (11-12 weeks) with a local community nonprofit for two to three hours weekly. Through WE, you can positively affect people's lives in our community and learn firsthand the inner workings of a nonprofit. You'll also learn about the specific social issues that our community partners address, such as food & housing and animal/pet insecurities.
From what you experience and learn first-hand at your service site, you'll critically reflect on your experiences via GivePulse and in reflection conversations with your team leaders. Additionally, you will explore the impacts of your committed service experience and discuss how you can continue to grow and take further actions as an active and engaged citizen.
"I learned a lot about food deserts in Williamsburg and programs that exist to help alleviate them. I also learned that there are ways to stay actively engaged in community way beyond college, and met some of the greatest people ever!" - WE participant
