Sarah E. McCartney, Assistant Teaching Professor of History and the National Institute of American History and Democracy (NIAHD), earned her Ph.D. in History from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Professor McCartney was previously the Visiting Assistant Professor of History and NIAHD. Professor McCartney’s research focuses on material culture, the Atlantic World, colonial Virginia, and the revolutionary-era backcountry. Her teaching assignments will include courses about the colonial Chesapeake and Atlantic World, the history of Williamsburg, material culture, public history, and courses based on Virginia’s history, historic sites, and museums.
