Volunteers of America

Jacinta Das is a junior at William & Mary majoring in Data Science. Jacinta loves numbers and is looking for a career that allows her to apply her quantitative skills to real-world problems. Jacinta’s experience working as a Virginia Senate Page and subsequently interning on several campaigns piqued her interest in policy. Because of her unique experience with the American education system, she is particularly passionate about education policy and STEM education. Jacinta homeschooled for most of high school; as soon as she turned 16, she acquired her GED and began classes at Northern VA Community College, where she worked as a mathematics lecture assistant. She has subsequently worked as a summer camp science specialist, and a mathematics classroom assistant through Griffin School Partnerships. Her experiences with STEM education have taught her that a dedicated student can learn anything, and she has since extrapolated the belief that a dedicated person can achieve anything. At William & Mary, Jacinta is involved in her church Bruton Parish and the campus Episcopal ministry, her sorority, Phi Mu, and the Peer Advising Program. In her spare time, she enjoys dancing, hiking, and reading.

Morgan is a current sophomore at the College of William and Mary, hailing from Richmond, Virginia. She is majoring in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics—which she notes is one major, not three. On campus, she is a Research Assistant for the Teaching, Research, and International Policy Project, a devoted member of Camp Kesem William and Mary, and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority currently serving as Finance Assistant and incoming Human Resources Director. She is deeply interested in decision-making, as one of the most indecisive people on this planet, but she has decided that she is very excited to spend the summer with the DCSI! In DC, she hopes to learn more about herself and her aspirations through stepping out of her comfort zone, and she can’t wait to enjoy everything that DC has to offer!

Rep. Ben McAdams (UT-4)

Madeleine is a rising junior at William & Mary, from Boise, Idaho. She is majoring in International Relations, minoring in Middle Eastern Studies, and is currently studying at the University of St Andrews through the William & Mary / St Andrews Joint Degree Program. Madeleine is interested in a career that advances human rights beyond the territorial, classist and racial boundaries that define our world today.

Madeleine became an activist through her work with the nonprofit People for Unity, organizing and speaking at her hometown’s Women’s Rights March and Anti-Gun Violence Walkout. As a student at W&M she’s focused on the increasingly political conversation about women’s rights in our country. Currently she is organizing the UNICEF symposium on Climate Justice and Children's rights at St Andrews.

Madeleine believes she still has much to learn about how to effectively use her voice to spur the change that she believes is vital to the survival and improvement of this nation. Through the Leadership and Community Engagement Institute, Madeleine hopes to gain greater insight into the theory and practice of leadership and looks forward to the opportunity to grow as a citizen and leader in this increasingly interconnected world.
