Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of W&M One Network?

The W&M One Network platform brings together the William & Mary community for professional
networking on a global scale, empowering career and industry connections needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

How does it work?

Members of the global William & Mary community are encouraged to sign up for W&M One Network, a professional networking platform provided by the university. Registering for an account takes less than five minutes if you use the email address W&M typically uses to reach you. Be sure to select all the university affiliations that apply (alumni, student, parent, spouse/partner, staff & faculty, business & industry partner) by clicking each box as applicable. Save time by syncing your One Network account with your LinkedIn profile.

Once logged in, One Network members can post questions, professional content and engage in threaded dialogue on the feed, engage in career connections/mentorship, join affinity communities, or find or fill job openings.

For more detailed instructions on registering for One Network, please review the detailed user guide (PDF).

Who are the members?

W&M One Network is an inclusive platform open to all William & Mary community members, including:

  • Current William & Mary undergraduate and graduate students, including those enrolled in online programs.
  • William & Mary alumni.
  • Parents, spouses and partners of current students or alumni of William & Mary.
  • Business and industry partners and volunteers at William & Mary.
Does it cost anything?

One Network is free to members of the William & Mary community.

Is participation on One Network mandatory?

No. While encouraged, a One Network account is not a requirement for any member of the William & Mary community. Any concerns should be directed to onenetwork@wm.edu.

Is there a mobile app?

One Network has a web-based app available for iOS and Android. Please refer to the mobile app instructions.

I'd like to promote my business to the William & Mary community — can I do that on One Network?

While we ask you to refrain from engaging in sales activities, investment opportunities and fundraising requests unrelated to William & Mary, we welcome members of our community to post their businesses or nonprofit organizations to the One Network Business Directory. Click the 'Start Posting' button on the Business Directory page to add your business or organization. Just be sure to adhere to the site’s terms of use, privacy policy and community guidelines.

If you’re unsure if a feed post or message will be in violation of the above, contact onenetwork@wm.edu for clarification prior to posting.

Can I control my privacy on One Network?

All users are required to accept One Network's Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, and agree to adhere to the platform's community guidelines. One Network members can manage a selection of account privacy settings by following these steps:

  • Click the gold dropdown menu located in the upper right corner of the webpage.
  • Select 'Settings.'
  • Click on the tab labeled 'Privacy.'
  • Adjust your privacy settings by selecting the appropriate radio buttons that correspond to your desired privacy level.
What’s the difference between One Network and my1693? Do I need an account in both platforms?

These are different systems and we recommend you create an account in both.

My1693 is a tool that allows you to see your information in our records database and make sure it is accurate — including your address, phone number, email and giving history. You can also update your contact information and opt to include it in the alumni directory within my1693 so that other alumni can reach out to you.

In contrast, One Network is a robust networking platform that allows you to post your thoughts in the main feed and in your communities, ask and offer help as a career connector or mentor, send direct messages to others on the platform, find businesses owned or run by members of the W&M community and share information about your business. The directory in One Network allows you to search for fellow members using a wide variety of fields and keywords. However, because the information in your One Network profile was provided by you when you registered, it doesn’t necessarily match what we have in our records system — which is why we recommend you create a log in for my1693 as well to ensure the information we have for you is accurate and up-to-date.

I'd like to help the William & Mary community — can I do this on One Network?

Absolutely! Showing you are willing to help on your One Network profile will allow those in need to find you in the Directory. It’s easy to document in your profile (gold down arrow top right of the screen – 'Edit profile') all the ways in which you are willing to help, and if you’re willing to support others as a career connector. Whether it’s through serving as a guest speaker, hosting an event, editing a resume, or sharing your advice and expertise, One Network, you can make a difference in someone’s career.

I'm seeking help, is there a way to discover and reach out to those willing to help?

You’ve come to the right place; the One Network directory is your one-stop shop for identifying fellow members of the William & Mary community who may be willing to support your professional development and career journey. To identify those willing to help, click the 'Get Involved' dropdown in the 'Filter by' pane on the right side of the webpage. Select all the 'Offering Help' options that are relevant to your needs. Additionally, you can identify those who are willing to help as a career connector by clicking 'Career Connections' (just below get involved in the 'filter by' pane) and selecting the options relevant to your needs under 'Offering Career Connections.'

Can I reach out to members on One Network who have not expressed a willingness to help or serve as a career connector?

While you can message any member of the platform who has messaging notifications turned on, we would recommend you initially reach out to members of the One Network community who have expressed a willingness to help.

What’s the difference between 'Career Connections,' formal mentorship programs and 'Offering Help'?

Career Connections can be mentors (formal or informal) and provide career advice and guidance. Members of One Network can reach out to other members who have indicated their willingness to be a Career Connector and request an initial conversation, then both parties can choose to continue that relationship, which can be ended by either party at any time.

One Network members can limit the number of Career Connections relationships they maintain at any given time on the platform. See Career Connections Settings section of the One Network User Guide (PDF) for more information. If a user has reached their self-imposed limit of Career Connections on One Network, they will no longer appear in the directory as offering Career Connections, nor will they be able to participate in formal mentorship programs on the platform until their cap is raised or prior relationships are ended.

We highly encourage all members on the platform to support individuals seeking career connections. Asking for help and offering assistance is a key cornerstone of One Network.

Formal mentorship programs on the platform, administered by William & Mary faculty & staff, are built around key milestones/benchmarks to help guide mentorship activities. These are currently only available through specific W&M programs.

Offering Help indicates a member of One Network is willing to provide a specific service to other community members of One Network. For example, someone offering help might be willing to conduct a resume review, help with an interview or make introductions to their professional network.

Why can't I find the person I'm looking for in the directory?

It’s possible that person has not yet registered for One Network. If they are registered and you can’t find them, it could be because your search is pulling in criteria from a previous search. One Network’s Directory search features, including the keyword search bar and the 'filter by' pane, are sticky and additive. This means your most recent search parameters will remain selected and/or entered in both the filter by pane and the keyword search bar. The easiest way to find who you’re looking for is to start a search from scratch each time. To clear all previous search parameters, simply click the green 'reset' button at the bottom of the filter by pane.

How do I sync my One Network account with LinkedIn?

Syncing your One Network account with LinkedIn is easy, even if you’ve already registered. Once logged in to One Network:

  • Click the gold down arrow at the top right of the screen.
  • Click 'Settings'
  • Click the 'ACCOUNT' tab (if not already selected)
  • Under 'Connect and sync your LinkedIn account' – click 'CONNECT'
  • Login using your LinkedIn username/password and click the blue 'Sign in' button.
  • Click the 'RE-SYNC' button on One Network.
  • Now your One Network profile professional details (employment history, profile picture, and bio/summary) should match your LinkedIn account.
    • Please note: on Oct. 31, 2023, LinkedIn will reduce API integration capabilities. Users will have the ability to sync only their first name, last name and email address.
I can’t access my One Network account, how do I reset my password?

If you already have a One Network account but cannot successfully login, resetting your password will likely resolve the problem. Please do not create a duplicate One Network account. Reset your password based on the method you used to register for One Network.

If you used your email address to register, you can use the 'Forgot password?' tool to reset your password:

  • Visit onenetwork.wm.edu.
  • Click the gold 'Sign In' button in the top right corner.
  • Click the green 'Forgot password?' button.
  • Enter your email address associated with your One Network account.

You will receive a temporary password via email. Use this temporary password to log in, and then reset it to a new password that you'll remember.

If you don't receive the temporary password via email, double-check that you entered the email address you used for your One Network registration.

If you still can't access your account, please email support@graduway.com.

If you used LinkedIn, Google, or W&M SSO to register, the 'Forgot password?' tool will not work. You will need to reset your password on the platform you used:

If you still can't access your account, please email support@graduway.com.
