Notice to the Community
It is with deep sadness that I inform you about the death of one of our students. We learned this week that Basel Osman, a rising senior from Woodbridge, Virginia died on June 1, 2021.
A graduate of Freedom High School in Woodbridge, Basel was an accomplished young man with an entrepreneurial spirit. He had significant interests in languages, computer science, and chemistry. One friend remembers especially his "immense cultural perspective," and many have noted what a positive impact he had on the lives of others. Basel's brother described him as "nothing but a force of nature." He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A gathering in celebration of Basel's life was held in Arlington, VA on Sunday, June 6. He is survived by his parents, Moustafa Osman and Eiman Hassan, and by his younger brother, Bashshar Osman. Basel's death reminds us of how close we are to one another at William & Mary. What affects one of us affects us all. I know you join me in extending deepest sympathies to the Osman family and to Basel's many friends.
