Governor taps two graduates for summer fellowships

Two recent William & Mary graduates, Georgia Allin ’19 and Rachel Becker ’19, have received Governor’s Fellowships, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s office announced recently. The two are among 28 students from Virginia universities or Virginia residents attending college outside of the commonwealth to be chosen for the fellowships.
Beginning June 3 through the end of July, they will be assigned to a division within Northam’s office, where they will gain experience working under cabinet secretaries and alongside the governor’s staff. The fellows also learn from special guest speakers from the administration and take field trips across the commonwealth.
“This program aims to cultivate the next generation of Virginia leaders by introducing young Virginians with a desire to serve to the workings of the executive branch and helping them build the skills and relationships to create a positive impact in our commonwealth,” Northam said in the release.
Allin earned a degree in government with a minor in economics. She interned with Sen. Monty Mason '89 (D-1st) her senior year. She was a member of Delta Gamma throughout college, participated in women's club lacrosse, studied abroad in Montpellier, France, during her junior year and interned on a couple of political campaigns.
Becker also earned a degree in government and said she has a keen interest in attending law school. On campus, she served as an orientation aide, was service and philanthropy director her sorority and a student representative on the W&M Leadership Advisory Council.
The Governor’s Fellowship program was first created by former Virginia Gov. Chuck Robb in 1982.
