What Can You Do With a Music Degree from W&M?

Nick Starr ’13 studied piano with Prof . Christine Niehaus and Prof. Harris Simon while a student at W&M. An extremely versatile performer, he recently won the audition to be the accompanist for The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” U.S. Army Voices. This type of position is often occupied by players who have obtained advanced degrees in music, but thanks to his exceptional preparation in Ewell, Nick was equally proficient in both classical and jazz piano, and therefore was highly favored by the group.  Now he plays in venues like the White House and the Kennedy Center. And he’ll be back in town next week for a sort of homecoming.

The US Army Voices will be in Williamsburg performing a free concert on Monday, February 29 at 7:30 at the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Repertory will include classical works by Aaron Copland, Morten Lauridsen, and Alice Parker as well as contemporary arrangements by Darmon Meador, and the Pentatonix. This is a joint concert sponsored by the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church and the W&M Department of Music.  The concert is free and open to the public.
