Internships in the United States

Hispanic Studies students who excel in our program are favored candidates for unique summer internships. The W&M Washington Center provides support for the internship programs in Washington, DC.. The Career Center offers stipends for unpaid internships.

Spanish Embassy

Each summer, between two and four declared Hispanic Studies majors are placed as summer interns at the Embassy of Spain in Washington, DC. This 6-8 week unpaid internship program runs through May, June and July. The offices of the Consejero Cultural or the Consejero de Educación at the Embassy supervise the interns. We issue a call for applications every year late in the fall semester.


This organization's mission statement reads: "Ayuda envisions a community where all immigrants overcome obstacles in order to succeed and thrive in the United States. We realize our vision by advocating for low-income immigrants through direct legal, social and language services, training and outreach in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area." Library of Congress

The Library of Congress facilitates summer internships open to all student levels and disciplinary interests. Venues of particular interest to Hispanic Studies students include the Hispanic Reading Room, the European Reading Room, and the Law Library of Congress. Interns assist with research and cataloging projects. All William & Mary undergraduates are eligible. Eastern Shore Rural Health, Inc.

Eastern Shore Rural Health, Inc. has offered medical interpretation internships to our most fluent students of Spanish every summer since 1998. Students work in clinics which bring together health care professionals and farm workers. They work with a team to offer consecutive interpretation.
