WMSURE participants are welcome to stop by during Office Hours. We're happy to help you get started, and can help you find answers about any resources on-campus.
Also - keep an eye on our workshop schedule. We frequently discuss topics related to navigating academia (usually in the Fall) and conducting research in an academic environment (usually in the Spring).
On-Campus Resources
At WMSURE, we want to ensure that our students are happy and healthy so that they may be successful. Here are a few links to some resources that they may find useful during their time at William & Mary:

- If you are designated as a W&M Scholar, you receive free tutoring at the Tribe TutorZone. You can apply for free tutoring by filling out this form
- Center for Student Diversity
- Writing Resources Center
- The Michael and Kathleen Clem History Writing Center provides writing consultations for history courses.
Benefits of Research
Engaging in research prepares students to excel in the job market and graduate school. Students who have conducted research have critical thinking skills, persuasive writing ability, and creativity. Employers and graduate schools look for and value these skills.
Undergraduate research is particularly critical to the persistence of underrepresented students in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields.
Honors Research
WMSURE introduces students to multiple research opportunities. A culminating research experience for many WMSURE scholars is the Honors Project, or thesis.
Funding for Undergraduate Research
One of the roles of WMSURE is to help guide WMSURE students to funding to support their research. These pages may help:
- The Charles Center manages various W&M-awarded grants that support student research.
- WMSURE Summer Grants are awarded to WMSURE students who plan to conduct summer research.
- WMSURE provides mini-grants up to $400 to support academic and research needs for WMSURE scholars. Funds will be available throughout the 2021-2022 academic year and applications will be accepted and evaluated on a rolling basis (first-come, first-served). All current WMSURE students who are actively participating in the program (attending workshops, mentorships, research, using resources, etc.) are eligible to apply for a mini-grant.
- There are many external sources of funding for student research.
