Spring 2014 RAIL Award Recipients

December/January/February’s Outstanding Student Leader:  Carly Martin

Upon returning in the spring, UAID had a new executive board, and the president and vice president had been abroad the previous semester and had not yet met Carly. They had the original vision for concert (this was the second annual concert, and Carly was not at W&M yet to see the first one), and offered a lot of opinions and constructive criticism. Even though Carly had already racked up countless hours, she was willing to make changes for the good of the group and always did so immediately and without complaint despite how stressful and overwhelming that must have been. At the concert itself, UAID had a few mishaps and Carly remained calm in every situation and none of the guests ever knew it was supposed to go differently. She handled the nine performing groups like a true professional, and was a natural on the microphone. Whenever UAID recognized her publicly and privately for all of her work, she always deferred the success to the team.

March’s Outstanding Student Leader:  Emilyann Key

Emilyann became president of Alpha Chi Omega sorority at the beginning of this semester during a pretty turbulent time for the chapter. However, during her term, she managed to turn the sorority in a completely new direction. She led the chapter with unconditional positivity and always had a smiling face and happy attitude. She has a very commanding presence and is a very impressive leader. She scheduled a transition day for the executive board at the beginning of the semester to train the new board and to encourage communication between old and new boards, something never done before.  .  She condensed chapter meetings by eliminating extraneous processes and incorporated workshops into weekly chapter meetings. Emilyann has led Alpha Chi in much more positive way and has improved it greatly in her term as president.

April’s Outstanding Student Leader: Sarah Lambert

In the fall of 2013, Sarah headed up the Corn Hole tournament, which was a new event. She oversaw the Halloween dance, Softball Tournament, and Sign Song Writer (open mic event) events. She has also spear-headed a renewed effort of Gift Shop and study guide sales. In the Spring of 2014, she oversaw our largest event, a silent and live auction. Over 300 Law students attended the event or more than 50% of the student population. This has been by far the most successful year for PSF on a number of different levels. She re-institutionalized the committee structure and was able to effectively delegate assignments across three different boards. She also unified and organized all three Boards that comprise PSF. Sarah has been an incredible asset to PSF and will continue to bring so much to the table.
