About Nathan

My passion for storytelling has taken me down some rewarding career paths in journalism and public relations. Those experiences led me to this wonderful university.

I spent 15 years as a beat reporter at daily newspapers in Danville, Lynchburg and Fredericksburg before embarking on a career in public relations at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Each workplace challenged me to find creative ways to tell stories.

I studied Communications at Virginia Tech, which is where I fell in love with sports writing. I covered the football team’s run to the 2000 national championship game as a student and developed a strong interest for college athletics.

College sports were a major part of my professional journalism career. I covered ACC basketball and football at the Danville Register & Bee and served as the Virginia Tech football and basketball beat reporter at the Lynchburg News & Advance and The Free Lance-Star in Fredericksburg.

I left newspapers in 2016 to join the PR ranks at Busch Gardens. Growing up in nearby Newport News, the amusement park was one of my favorite places to visit. Working there for three years was almost as thrilling as the 205-foot first drop of the Griffon roller coaster.

When I am not writing or watching a game, I love spending time with my lovely wife and two beautiful children.
