Education Liaison

Recommendation #3:

IFC/NPHC/Panhellenic Council should affirm that every fraternity and sorority chapter is required to appoint an education liaison. The role/responsibility of this liaison is to ensure communication between their chapter and the Steering Committee. Source: The Final Recommendations

It is the responsibility of the liaison to provide updates and information to the Steering Committee about their chapter's prevention efforts and educational content presented to the chapter. The liaison will be the main conduit of educational resources for the chapter, and will receive information on available programming regarding the prevention of sexual misconduct and harassment (including sexual assault, non consensual contact, sexual exploitation, relationship violence, and stalking) and related campus resources and services. It is the primary responsibility of the liaison to ensure that mandatory baseline education is being provided to their chapter. Additionally, they are responsible for tracking their chapters educational programming and submitting that information to the Steering Committee within two weeks of the program date.

The liaison should be an experienced chapter member who has demonstrated an interest in sexual misconduct and harassment prevention or support and/or has prior experience in their chapter with coordinating and communicating with external groups.

The liaison should be available to meet with the Steering Committee at least twice a semester, and additionally as needed. If they must miss a scheduled meeting, they are responsible for following up with the necessary point person.

The selection of the liaison is determined by the chapter, but the liaison should serve for a minimum of one calendar year.

The liaison may be looked to and approached by members of their chapter for various levels of support. These may include survivors or perpetrators of sexual misconduct. The liaison should only act as a bridge to campus resources. However, liaisons will have access to regularly updated educational materials, a guide for self care, and should have knowledge of the resources that are available to students affected by sexual misconduct and/or harassment.

The liaison serves as a representative of their chapter. If they are unable to fulfill their responsibilities, their chapter will be held accountable.
