Center for Gifted Ed holds seminar for parents

The Center for Gifted Education (CFGE) at the College of William and Mary's School of Education recently held a seminar for parents of gifted and talented children.

The two-hour seminar held on March 13 offered parents an opportunity to meet Tracy L. Cross, Jody and Layton Smith Professor of Psychology and Gifted Education and executive director of the Center for Gifted Education. Susan K. Johnsen, professor of educational psychology and director of the PhD program in educational psychology at Baylor University, also presented.

logoDuring the seminar, Cross and Johnsen offered vital information for parents to use as advocates for their children. The pair also discussed unique programs and opportunities that are designed to challenge and stimulate young gifted learners, and addressed the unique social and emotional needs of gifted children as well as how parents can be supportive of those needs.

The event was very successful and demonstrated the need within the community to offer parents of gifted children an opportunity to network with each other and to gather information about their children's needs.

Cross and staff members from the Center for Gifted Education staff plan to continue to offer outreach to parents by offering similar types of events in the future. Please note that information about upcoming events can be found at http://cfge.wm.edu/.
