William & Mary Provost Michael Halleran sent the following message to faculty and staff Tuesday regarding the search for a Dean of University Libraries. -Ed

After twelve years of innovative and successful leadership, Connie McCarthy is retiring from her position as Dean of University Libraries at the end of this academic year.  In consultation with President Reveley and the Faculty Assembly, I have appointed a search committee for the position of Dean of University Libraries.  The committee is charged with recommending to the President and me, by April 1, 2010, no fewer than three candidates for this position.

The members of the committee are:

Ann Marie Stock, Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, Chair

David Alpert, Undergraduate Student

Stephen Clark, Acquisitions Librarian, Swem Library

Christopher Del Negro, Department of Applied Science

James S. Heller, Marshall-Wythe School of Law

Julia Kaziewicz, Arts and Sciences Graduate Student

Hiroshi Kitamura, Department of History

Sophie Lee, Former Chair, Swem Library Board

Natasha McFarland, Electronic Resources Manager, Swem Library

Henry E. Mallue, Jr., Mason School of Business

Monica B. Potkay, Department of English

Gene A. Roche, Director of Academic Information Services

The committee will soon advertise the vacancy and invite nominations and applications.  If you have any nominations to suggest or questions about the process, please bring them to the attention of the committee chair, Professor Ann Marie Stock.
