Incident near campus

Vice President for Administration and Chair of the Emergency Management Team Anna Martin sent the following message to the campus community on Dec. 10, 2013 - Ed.

Last evening one of our female students was approached by an unknown male who exposed himself to her. Fortunately, the she was not physically harmed, and she immediately contacted the William & Mary Police.  The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Green and Gold Village near College Terrace and Harrison Ave. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 40 years old, 5’10” with an average build. He was wearing a gray hoodie, sweat pants and a beanie hat.

This incident is an unfortunate reminder that crimes can and do occur. William & Mary and the Williamsburg are generally very safe communities, but it is helpful to remember that there are measures we can and should take to increase our level of personal safety.  Whenever possible, it is wise to travel with others, particularly after dark.   And, as the student in this case did, call the police immediately if something happens to you or if you see suspicious activity -- on campus or off, use 911.

If you have any information related to this incident that may be helpful in please contact William & Mary Police, 221-4596.

Be safe,

Anna Martin
