Anna Martin's message regarding the passing of Karen McCluney

Anna Martin, vice president for administration, sent the following message to the William & Mary community on Oct. 13 regarding the passing of Karen McCluney - Ed.

It is with sadness that I inform you of the death of Karen McCluney, an employee of SWEM library.    Karen passed away on Monday, October 12, after a brief illness.  She leaves behind her husband Richard, her sisters Pam Mansfield of California, Pat Henderson of England and brothers Kevin and Kenny Henderson of Florida.

Karen began working at the College in November 1988 as a Graphic Artist Illustrator B in the Publications office and later transferred to IT in 1989.  In July 1998 she was transferred to SWEM as a Graphic Designer.   She was responsible for the graphic designs for exhibits, booklets, brochures, posters public service advertising and computer graphics for the library.    With her usual enthusiasm she created a number of visitor’s, student and faculty guides that earned high praises.  In 2002 she won the paraprofessional award in recognition of her dedicated service to the library.

Karen enjoyed reading, photography, sewing, knitting, swimming and spending time in her home on the James River in Charles City.  She adored her two cats Phoebe and Charlie.

There will be a celebration of Karen’s life and work in the Botetourt Gallery, ground floor of Swem Library, at 2:00 Friday, October 16.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Karen’s family and colleagues.
