"A person, a place, a feeling.
Some drywall, a roof, a door.
We thought we knew what home was.
After a year inside it, we are sure."

These are some of our experiences over the past year--rehearsed and filmed entirely through Zoom.

Zig-Zag

Choreographer: Jillian Marzziotti
Music: Black Mambo
Dancer: Jillian Marzziotti

Supertoaster Schematics

Choreographer: Mandi Cotrill
Music: Cinematic Moog Motion by Zen Man
Dancers: Sabrina Willis, Amber Wyatt, Brianna Pinckney, Jessica Anstice
Poem: Jesus Christ Super Toaster by Omar Holmon
Videography: Mandi Cotrill

This piece is about miscommunication wherein friends struggle to stay on the same page (or even awake) during a light-hearted rant.

Shrouded

Choreographer: Moira McDermott
Music: John Mayer
Dancer: Moira McDermott

Videography: Moira McDermott

This piece was inspired by the landscape of Seattle, where I am currently living. Specifically, I am exploring the ways the beautiful scenery can be disguised by rain, wind, and fog, and how that external landscape can be mirrored internally.

Taped Glass

Choreographer: Amanda Gill
Music: Message To Bears-Will Samson
Dancers: Christina MacInnes, Daniella Superlano, Julia Grabo, Laney Thompson, and Rithika Ashok

Videography: Grace Helmick

This piece is exploring what it is like to lose part of oneself and to feel incomplete. But by the end of the piece, through struggle, the dancers are able to find their holistic selves. Each dancer was given a word to focus on as something they have lost or struggled with (time, connectedness, adventure, etc.). By the end of the dance, each dancer has rediscovered how to live with all parts of themselves.

Code-Switch

Choreographer: Kayli Martin
Music: Jeremy Korpas, Godmode, Spazz Cardigan
Voiceovers: Doreen F., Karen H., Barbara J., Karen J., Neeya M., Sydney M., Prisqilla M., Margie N., Shirley N., Keiya S.
Dancers: Taiana James, Naomi Yared
Videography and Production Lead: Claire Hogan

Code-Switch highlights the way in which many people of color (specifically Black women in this piece) must alter themselves to align with what society believes the workplace and social environments should be like. The two dancers explore what it means to be two separate people in one space. They eventually come to a realization that no one should feel as if they have to choose whether they need to flip the light switch on or off because that should not be a thought at all.

Out of Step

Choreographer: Logan Parrott
Music: Leyland James Kirby, Maurice Winnick
Dancers: Mary Beth Bauermann, Jeron DuHart, Kaylee Henderson, Brianna Pinckney, Salimata Sanfo
Videography: Jeff Herrick and Logan Parrott

Out of Step is an exploration of how we can feel off-kilter in periods of stress; out of place in our own bodies, out of rhythm with the everyday movements of life, and out of sync with the people around us.

Breaking Free

Choreographer: Joel Calfee
Music: Ryuichi Sakamoto, Max Martin/Rami, Azealia Banks, Jeff Martens, and Lazy Jay
Videographer: Rhea Calfee
Performer: Joel Calfee

In this piece, I explored my journey as a queer man and the different hurdles I had to overcome in order to "break free" from insecurities and restrictions I felt as a child. Through abstraction, I explore the ways in which chosen family and LGBTQ+ spaces acted as a source and space for liberation, and how music and movement have been channels for freedom as well.

Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

Choreographer: Grace Poreda
Music: Duncan Thum
Dancers: Alexandra Huang-Queiroz, Taiana James, Cassidy Palomares, Anna Steinmetz
Videography and Production: Kelsey McAlister

Two Steps Forward, One Step Back, explores the nature of personal growth. As we strive to improve and strengthen ourselves, failing and falling is inevitable. Growth is inherently nonlinear, and it is the setbacks and challenges of growth that make it beautiful.

Transcending Geography

Choreographer: Breanna Maldonado
Music: East Forest, Baths, Max Cooper, Sleeping At Last
Dancers: Addy Normann, Alex McOsker, Alexandra Huang-Queiroz, Amanda Gill, Amy Wolgin, Anna Steinmetz, Breanna Maldonado, Cameron Lynch, Cassidy Palomares, Christina Macinnes, Daniella Superlano, Emma Jackson, Emma Winnikow, Grace Poreda, Holly Stefanick, India Turner, Julia Grabo, Julia Mitchell, Kate Bender, Katerina Viyella, Katie Rys, Laney Thompson, Mary-Shea McDowell, Melaina Jacoby, Rithika Ashok, Taiana James, Zoe Savoy Rose Videographer: Grace Helmick

This piece is about taking an active role in your local community as well as in the wider, global community. It is about working with other localized communities to create that sense of global community and establishing your sense of global identity.
