W&M, 2010

Fields of Study: Physics, M.A.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on High School Physics
Teaching Focus: Physics: 10th, 11th, 12th
Teaching Assignment: Singapore American School

Describe your current teaching assignment:
The Singapore American School is a private, international school in Singapore. The school serves students from age 3 to grade 12, with students from the United States, India, China, and other countries. This will be my second year at the Singapore American School; I will be teaching Chemistry and AP Physics C: Mechanics and Electricity and Magnetism.
How did the Noyce program prepare you for this assignment?

The courses for the M.A.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction helped me understand how to teach high school science and provided a springboard to become a good teacher.

The courses emphasized that all students can learn to a high level and provided strategies for teaching to all students. I have written curriculum for physics courses throughout my career. Without the M.A.Ed. as a foundation, I would not have understood how to write curriculum, implement effective instructional practices, or develop useful assessments.

What has the Noyce program meant to you?
The Noyce program funded most of the M.A.Ed.; instead of focusing on finances, the funding allowed me to focus on becoming a great teacher.
