Peer Advising Program

During the summer, Peer Advisors serve as guides and mentors for new first-year and transfer students. They also help to administer the summer College Studies online course. During the academic year, Peer Advisors are available to meet with current undergraduate students.
Peer Advisor Support for New Incoming Students:
A Peer Advisor is a student leader who works with the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs to assist you before and during registration. The Peer Advisor is an upper division student at W&M and can offer tips and strategies from an insider's point of view. Peer advisors will reach out to new students through email on June 12 (transfer students) and on June 26 (for new students). They will review the draft schedule of courses you will create as part of College Studies and give you feedback ahead of your initial summer registration window. The Peer Advisors support the advising process for new students by:
- Providing leadership and fostering a network of peer support
- Serving as role models who can provide information about curricular and co-curricular opportunities at W&M
- Informing new students about policies and procedures
- Teaching new students how to schedule classes and how to register
- Helping new students prepare for meetings with their faculty advisors
- Supporting the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs staff and faculty advisors
Peer Advisor Support for Continuing Students (during the academic year)
Want to get a peer's perspective on academic life at William & Mary? During the academic year, our peer advisors can meet with you and talk about:
- Adapting to academic life generally
- Tips on communicating with faculty advisors and professors
- What it might mean for you to be a "William & Mary" student
- Managing the registration process
- How to connect with campus resources
- Ideas for getting involved on campus
