Topological Data Analysis

The field of topology, and in particular computational topology, has produced a powerful set of tools for studying both model systems and data produced as measurements of physical systems.  Students choose data sets and/or models and develop techniques to measure topological properties.  Particular attention is paid to the effects of measurement or system error and/or sparsity of reliable data.  Past projects have included studies of species abundance patterns, medical imaging, texture analysis, and morphological data for yeast colonies.
