Undergraduate Program

The Government Department offers a B.A. in Government. We are committed to intellectual rigor in teaching and research. Our students investigate political beliefs and actions of the individual citizen on up to those of international states.

You may major in Government, and many non-majors find that a government course or two enhances their studies in other disciplines.

Studying Government strengthens students' analytical and communications abilities. Most courses in the Department require one or more papers. The Department offers multiple writing-intensive seminars designed for any first-year student. Our advanced seminars, which enroll 15 or fewer students, require a major paper based on independent student research. Majors are encouraged to conduct an honors or independent study project. Our faculty conduct collaborative research with dozens of undergraduates, often resulting in publication.

The Department is committed to the long-term professional development of students, providing assistance with everything from internships and scholarships to graduate placement and study abroad.
