The Asian & Middle Eastern Studies (AMES)/Asian & Pacific Islander American Studies (APIA) Library, located in Boswell Hall, has been my safe space on campus the past three years. The room, which features Turkish floor cushions and various historical artifacts, was curated by AMES and APIA faculty with the intention of giving Asian and Asian American students their first dedicated space at W&M. I was introduced to my major in this room during my freshman year during the Asian & Pacific Islander American Studies Open House, and since then I’ve taken classes, attended Banh Mi Lectures, and held community with other Asian students and faculty here.
