Space Management Committees

Space Management at William & Mary has been actively pursued for over 300 years through a multitude of challenges both internally and externally.  It encompasses space planning, creating policies and procedures and making recommendations concerning space utilization in support of the university's mission and strategic planning goals and objectives. The Provost is the purveyor of all space on campus and is the authorized decision maker.  To consult and advise in these decision the Provost has created three committees to meet unique challenges:

Executive Committee for Space Management (ECSM)

Meets as needed to review: 

  • requests concerning large scale projects (moves related to over 2500+gsf, capital projects , etc),
  • 10 or more individual spaces
  • whole department moves

Members of the President's Executive Leadership Team, Deans and others would be asked to consult when issues for discussion arose concerning their respective purview.

Committee for Space Management (CSM)

Meets every two months as the first point of contact for all requests. This group will review/approve requests that do not meet ECSM criteria, identify options, recommendations and cost. Vehicle for requests for ECSM. Delegated authority regarding requests not meeting ECSM criteria.

Meets on as needed basis. Coordinates research spaces and interdisciplinary and inter-school academic programs.
