Aprendiendo Juntos (WMSURE & Sociology) is seeking two Family Coordinators and one Tutor Coordinator to join our team for the 2026–2027 academic year. Applicants should submit your resume and a 1-page cover letter to kbarkoalva@wm.edu by August 14, 2026 by 12:00 PM.
Family Coordinators (2 positions)
Family Coordinators play a key role in supporting the planning and implementation of our family engagement program.
Responsibilities include:
- We seek students who are organized, dependable, strong communicators, and passionate about supporting multilingual learners and community engagement to apply.
- Recruiting, coordinating, and communicating with volunteers for monthly and/or semester family events.
- Planning, organizing, and facilitating engaging, age-appropriate activities for children during family meetings.
- Collaborating with the Aprendiendo Juntos team to ensure events are well organized, welcoming, and meaningful for participating families.
- Assisting with event logistics and helping create a positive and inclusive environment for children and their families.
- Maintaining regular communication and collaborating with Professors Jennifer Bickham Mendez and Katherine Barko-Alva to support program planning, operations, and continuous improvement.
Time Commitment: Approximately 2–4 hours per week.
Tutor Coordinator (1 position)
The Tutor Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the tutoring component of the Aprendiendo Juntos program. This position is responsible for coordinating volunteers, maintaining communication with tutors and school partners, and ensuring tutoring sessions are organized and effective.
Responsibilities include:
- We seek students who are organized, dependable, strong communicators, and passionate about supporting multilingual learners and community engagement to apply.
- Recruiting, coordinating, and communicating with volunteer tutors on a weekly basis.
- Developing tutoring schedules and coordinating transportation (car rides) for volunteers, as needed.
- Collaborating with teacher leaders and classroom teachers at our partner school to support student learning and address program needs.
- Assisting with the planning and coordination of the Multilingual Learner (ML) Visit Day.
- Maintaining regular communication and collaborating with Professors Jennifer Bickham Mendez and Katherine Barko-Alva to support program planning, operations, and continuous improvement.
- Supporting the overall success of the tutoring program through effective organization, communication, and collaboration.
Time Commitment: Approximately 8-10 hours per week.
