Geology is the study of the Earth.  At William & Mary the Geology department takes a broad view on the Earth, offering courses that focus on the workings and history of the Earth’s interior, surface, and atmosphere.  The Geology department is a dynamic, intellectual community with a strong undergraduate program in which all Geology majors pursue an original research project.  Geologists typically go to the field for their primary data, and field trips form a distinctive and critical component of the Geology experience at William & Mary.   Our graduates go on to success in many fields, ranging from the earth and marine sciences to law and public service.  Learn more about us...

The Department of Geology at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in physical geomorphology with preference given to those who apply field and/or remote sensing techniques to solve geologic problems.

Additional areas of specialty may include remote sensing, GIS, shallow geophysics, basin analysis, stratigraphy, and planetary geology. Appointment will begin August 10, 2023.

The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant externally funded research program that incorporates mentorship of undergraduate research students. Teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester.

Successful applicants must possess the skills to teach Earth Surface Processes and other geology major courses as well as to contribute courses in geology at the introductory through advanced undergraduate level and advise research students in their subdiscipline.
