During the past 40 years the Geology department has graduated over 700 majors who have gone on to a diverse array of careers. Over 50% of our recent graduates go to graduate school in the sciences. Many alums are professionals in the earth and environmental sciences, but the range of vocations is impressive and includes educators, attorneys, medical doctors, soldiers, and clergy. Our friends include interested parents as well as citizens we have interacted with at public lectures, through the Geology of Virginia website, or those we have met while doing fieldwork.
The close-knit nature of the department and the high quality of the undergraduate experience has lead to generous giving from the alumni back to the department (Geology has the highest rate of giving in all of Arts & Sciences). For this we are grateful, as that giving helps us grow and enhance the department.
The department sends out an annual newsletter to keep in touch with alumni. If you would like to receive a copy, please make sure we've got your updated contact information (scroll to the bottom to update contact information). For current updates, feel free to follow us on Facebook!
