Not a GSWS Major?

Everyone can benefit from a greater understanding of gender, sexuality, and women's issues. All of our courses are open to all students without pre-requisites –  if you see a course that looks interesting to you, sign up!

You might want to take a GSWS course that complements your major. If you want to sample a GSWS course but aren't sure where to start, we recommend:

  • Any first-year course carrying the attributes COLL 100 or COLL 150
  • Introduction to Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies (GSWS 205)
  • Topics in GSWS (GSWS 290).

Topics courses change regularly, so be sure the check the Open Course List or Dynamic Schedule to find out which topics will be covered next.

A number of GSWS courses fulfill COLL requirements, including:

  • GSWS 304. Gender in Society (COLL 200, CSI)
  • GSWS 312. Comparative Sociology (CSI)
  • GSWS 316. 20th-Century Italian Women Writers (COLL 200, ALV)
  • GSWS 332. Sex & Race in Plays & Films: Dramatizing Diversity (COLL 200, ALV, ACTV)
  • GSWS 350. The Roman Family (COLL 200, ALV, CSI)

We also encourage non-majors to enroll for an internship for academic credit at a local community organization, or work with one of the GSWS faculty on an independent study.
